Change

“When someone says ‘You’ve changed’ it simply means you’ve stopped living life their way.”

As I look back over the past year of my life, I have made leaps and bounds. I’m not the same person I was or even in the remotely same place in my life. On my 25th birthday I swore that I would do something different. On this day of my 26th birthday, it is a joy for me to look back and see how far I’ve really come.

Even though I still feel mostly in transition, destination: unknown, I can truly say I am happy.

This past weekend I saw some old friends and had interesting conversations with a number of them. I know and they know that I have changed… some are happy for me and embrace who I have become, others refuse to acknowledge and fight for the old ways. My life has radically altered and there is nothing I can do to go back to the person I once was.

Since the day I saw the Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, I memorized this quote at the end of the movie, spoken by Frodo:

“How do you pick up the threads of an old life? How do you go on, when in your heart you begin to understand there is no going back?”

Onward. Looking forward to another year of immense change and growth.
