30 Before 30 Update

The fifth item on my 12 Goals for 2012 is to complete 5 things on my 30 before 30 list. I started this year with low expectations, but high hopes. So far, I feel as though I’ve gone through a major transformation.

“How does one become a butterfly” she asked pensively.
“You must want to fly so much that you are willing to give up being a caterpillar.”

– Trina Paulus, “Hope for the Flowers”

I am going going to blow past my goal of five this year. In fact, I completed six within the first four months. Wow.

2. Be vegetarian for a month – done!

4. Get another stamp in my passport – done!

7. Skydive – done!

18. Read 52 books in 52 weeks – done!

19. Buy at least 3 vegetables I’ve never tried before. Eat them. – started

20. Create a new painting – done!

28. Have a cocktail at a classy restaurant – done!

30. Do something that terrifies me – started

I’m pleased with the fact that once I put my mind to doing many of these things, I did them.

Have you completed any major goals for the year or things you wanted to do? Have you felt like your life is changing for the better?

I Will Run a Marathon

Similar to giving up meat for lent, I made another spur of the moment decision the week after I got back from Costa Rica.

One of my friends kept talking about running a marathon. I’ve thought before that people who voluntarily run 26.2 miles were a little out of their minds, but hey, what do I know? Despite the fact that I’ve never been a runner–AT ALL–after talking with her about it so much, I got to thinking… Why not do what I thought impossibleI will run a marathon.

Also, it doesn’t hurt that #1 on my 30 before 30 is to run a half marathon. I think a full will cover it.

I’m kickstarting my training with the Alamo City Beer Challenge, because what sounds more fun than beer and running?? The series really is targeted at marathoners running in November, but I’ll make it work and have fun along the way.

And off I go!

#18: Read 52 Books in 52 Weeks

via popcrunchboom.wordpress.com

Last week I officially completed #18: Read 52 Books in 52 Weeks. In fact, I read 52 books in 45 weeks, placing me 7 weeks shy of the full year time limit! If you’re interested, you can see the complete list of 52 books on the original post.

#7: Skydive.

I am SO excited to share with everyone that last Saturday I managed to knock another 30 before 30 goal off my list…

I WENT SKYDIVING!

Happy girl

A lot of people skydive every year (or every day even) but I have a major fear of heights. My friend told me that I looked terrified as we went to actually make the jump… But I did it and had an absolute blast!

#2: Be vegetarian for a month

Not only did I survive, but I thrived for 47 days with no meat, officially marking #2: Be vegetarian for a month off my 30 before 30 list.

I cooked more, I ate healthier (actually eating enough fruit and veg) and overall I’ve felt much better. In fact, I will probably keep my diet predominately vegetarian. The closest call with breaking my commitment came in Costa Rica, but that aside, it was much easier than I expected.

And another goal bites the dust…
