Quotes that Inspire

I ran across the Holstee Manifesto for the first time (or at least, that I recall) several weeks ago.  The following week, it popped back up in Jenny Blake’s “Make Sh*t Happen” course and I just knew I had to include it on one of my posts.

This post isn’t about manifestos or mission statements, but about quotes I like and that help motivate me. Here are some of my favorite quotes right now:

  • “You have exactly one life in which to do everything you’ll ever do. Act accordingly.” – Colin Wright
  • “Once in a while it really hits people that they don’t have to experience the world in the way they have been told to.” -Alan Keightley (via Chris Guillebeau)
  • “There is more to life than increasing its speed.” – Mahatma Ghandi
  • “The foolish man seeks happiness in the distance, the wise grows it under his feet.” – James Oppenheim
  • “Life is a shipwreck, but we must not forget to sing in the lifeboats.” – Voltaire
  • “There are moments in our lives when we summon the courage to make choices that go against reason, against common sense and the wise counsel of people we trust. But we lean forward nonetheless because, despite all risks and rational argument, we believe that the path we are choosing is the right and best thing to do. We refuse to be bystanders, even if we do not know exactly where our actions will lead.” – Howard Schultz
  • “All good fortune is a gift of the gods, and you don’t win the favor of the ancient gods by being good, but by being bold.” – Anita Brookner
  • “Be shocking, be daring, be bold, be passionate.” – Jane Porter
  • “I can’t change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination.” – Jimmy Dean
  • “It takes as much energy to wish as it does to plan.” – Eleanor Roosevelt
